Yippee! Petit Bateau is now fully stocked at Kid! It’s timeless, classic and I better not stare at this photo any longer. It’s reminding me that Mia isn’t a little baby anymore. I received a striped dress from this line when Mia was born, and I had to wait months before it would fit. It was so cute I practically hung it on the wall above her crib. Honestly, Mia still wears it even though it’s transformed from a stylish dress to practically a midriff three quarter length sleeve shirt at this point. And yes, it’s true. It’s becoming a bit of a struggle to get it over her head.
Wait until you see what’s coming late Fall. You will rarely see me doing a rain dance, but this yellow rain coat (Remember Paddington Bear?) will change all that. And more stripes! Nope. Not tired of them. Not even a bit.
It’s really a shame that Mia can’t fit into all the pinstripe onesies that are lined up on the shelves here. I guess I missed the Little Boat on that (pun intended).
Huset is having an opening party today from 4pm-11pm at 1316 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice. We’ll be going on the early side as Mia will be with us. If only all parties started at 4pm! If you haven’t been yet, you must stop by this shop for all things Scandinavian. Mia has a few plates from here that make mealtime happy and chic. See you there!
I’m telling you, folks, if you have a kid that’s looking for a good sippy cup, then this if the one you want. I didn’t originally understand it when a Mom was telling me that if she could invent one thing it would be Lollacup. I mean, I thought it was cute, but how different could one sippy cup be from another? I’m here to report that I have been converted. I am a true believer – Lollacup rules. While traveling this summer, ours got ruined by my near perfect mother-in-law as they don’t go in the dishwasher (thus relinquishing her from perfect status – what a relief!). We couldn’t find a suitable cup to replace it.
The straw part has a weight on the bottom, so no matter what angle your kid takes a sip from, they always get what they’re after. They originally came in orange, green and red and they’ve just added two new colors: black and purple.
I’m not sure, but I think I enjoy magazines just as much as I did twenty years ago. It’s a visual playground I use to dream and conjure up so many ideas that some nights I’ve chosen to look at pictures rather than sleep. It’s unending now that it’s all online and my guilty pleasure ranges from home design to fashion to coveting little must have trinkets. Nothing beats a magazine and I just love staring at color combos of the text on paper. I can find new living room paint colors to lust after just after declaring living with white walls is the only way to go. The latest recipe can send me straight to the market even though my husband pretty much does all the cooking. I lust after leopard flats when really, I have never taken a second glance at animal prints. Unfortunately I cannot endlessly consume all the treasures I spy nor can I budget the weekly home makeover I demand in my head, but I think it is fun to revel in all that fashion dictates.
Hot off the press is this beauty of a fashion book with a fantastic title chronicling fifty years of international fashion. This book explores Vreeland’s life told through the work she created throughout her career. With over 350 images, including many photographs from Richard Avelon, Irving Penn and other famed photographers, this book is intensely visual and shows fashion as it was being invented through the pages of magazines that shaped American taste with their superb fashion editing, photography, and art direction. Plus, it includes one of my fave photos of Mick Jagger and another of Georgia O’Keefe that just makes me want to move to the desert and nail some antlers above my fireplace.
Or perhaps just make bee costumes and strike a pose. It’s here at Firefly. Enjoy.
Summer is fun. We in California are fortunate to have glorious weather most of the year. Growing up, summers were spent swimming, eating pomegranates, riding bikes and rollerskating for hours without cell phones knowing we just had to be home in time for dinner. These bracelets just came in and although Fall is heading our way, they just scream summer and by the looks of the weather outside Firefly today, I have yet to feel a real chill in the air.
I don’t want one. I don’t want three. I want like ten of these on my arm and perhaps a margarita in hand. They are totally affordable ranging from $1.50-$6 and such a treat. Even the ponytail holder around my wrist looks cuter. I can’t find a bad one in the batch.
Those who know me are keenly aware I have no self control when it comes to starting new art projects especially anything that has to do with screen printing. I own two Gocco machines and have bought countless linoleum boards for various art projects that sit impatiently in the garage under my sewing machine, tennis rackets and seemingly now useless CD collection. The excuses run rampant, and I am really not quite sure when I am getting to all my ideas. The truth is, running a business and having a family doesn’t leave a whole lot of extra time to tinker in the garage playing around with all my clever ways, never mind simply doing the dishes when so many statuses need to checked daily on Facebook. That’s why it comes as such a relief that I can appreciate the fine screen printing and sheer determination of others. New to Firefly is Beau Ideals. You really must see these in person. Is it wrong to be in love with a greeting card?
What am I going to have to do to convince this designer to make each and every outfit in my size? These bohemian rhapsodies are at the top of fave list. I wish I was the girl playing the guitar, but I’ll admit, I would probably be the one holding the tambourine and shaking what momma gave me since I never got the guitar lessons I wanted when I was eight. Kids are so cool these days.
I want to go on and beyond about the dress pictured here: embroidered flowers on this chic frock, the pony tail style, the boots, the stockings, the slatted walls, the worn table, the darling cherub expression, but instead I’ll just shall stare at the screen rocking back and forth chanting I love it. I do! You can pick these latest Fall fashions for your little ones at KID!
Easily the cutest house shoes available for babies, these booties and ballet flats from Collegien have been on my must have list for months. My shipment (straight from France!) finally arrived and I’m practicing all my self control to not buy Mia a different pair for every day of the week.
We have the orange and white stripes for now. And they are so adorable on her tiny feet. Pop in and pick some up STAT. This may be my only shipment. Ever.
Did you see that Kid is now open two doors down from Firefly? Thought you might like a little tour of the shop. It’s a work in progress, but we couldn’t wait to open the doors until it was 100% perfect. Nothing’s ever 100% perfect, is it?
